The Arizona Diamondbacks have the opportunity for a rare accomplishment this afternoon (at least for them).
A victory over the San Diego Padres today would give the Arizona Diamondbacks their first series sweep of 2009. The last time the D-Backs swept any series was September 26, 27 and 28 of last season when they gave the Colorado Rockies a broom job at Chase Field to close out the ‘08 campaign.
Last night’s 4-3 win over the Padres also gave the Diamondbacks their first home series win under new manager A.J. Hinch, who took over for Bob Melvin on May 8th.
Right hander Max Scherzer (5-6, 3.73 ERA) takes the hill for Arizona and will be faced by San Diego’s Chad Gaudin (4-7, 5.35 ERA).
Gerardo Parra is in the lineup for the Diamondbacks today. Parra has been red hot as of late, going 10 for 17 (.588) during the Snakes’ streak. Parra drove in a run with a triple last night, his 6th of the season, which has him tied for the lead in that category among National Leaguers.
