Everything’s hinging on Texas, it seems…if the Longhorns bolt, the Big 12 will crumble. If not, the Pac-16 could be born. We talk about the possibilities.

Segment 1 (0:00) – The show gets off on a weird foot, and we discuss Glee, Sex and the City and Phoenix Sports Radio before getting into the Diamondbacks and their most recent loss to the Atlanta Braves. Maybe it’s all a defense mechanism so that we don’t have to talk about the D-backs for any longer than we have to.

Segment 2 (30:00) – Ray Allen goes from hero to goat in one game, and Derek Fisher steals the show in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. We’ll talk about that and Amare Stoudemire saying there’s no way he’ll pick up his option for next year if the Suns don’t re-sign him to a max deal.

Segment 1 (0:00) – The Arizona Diamondbacks showed signs of life over the weekend, taking two of three from the Colorado Rockies, and actually scoring twice against superhuman right hander Ubaldo Jimenez on Sunday. We talk about the weekend that was at Chase Field, and look ahead to the four-game series this week against the Atlanta Braves.

Segment 2 (29:43) – The Boston Celtics bounced back behind monster games from Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo to beat the Lakers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. We talk about the series, the stupid playoff format and some inherent problems in the NBA.

Segment 3 (51:24) -LEFTOVERS. Hall and Oates boycotting Arizona? Really? The ASU Sun Devils are headed to the Super Regional round in baseball once again and Pac-10 expansion looks more and more inevitable.

Segment 1 (0:00) – Things are not good for the Arizona Diamondbacks. They’ve lost 10 straight, 4 in a row in walk-off fashion and they haven’t scored a run in 31 innings. Team owner Ken Kendrick has sent not-so-subtle messages that jobs are on the line and that changes are coming. We discuss the recent play of the team and whether or not this is the low point in Diamondbacks’ history.

Segment 2 (33:30) – The Pac-10 could soon be expanding–by six teams!!! Reports that the conference will extend invititations to Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Colorado are circulating. We talk about the possibility of the Pac-16 and how this will affect Arizona State and Arizona.

Segment 3 (52:30) – On the leftovers pile today–NBA Finals, bad Bill Walton impressions (again), near-perfect games and taking away Heismans.

Segment 1 (0:00) – Since we haven’t had a chance to do it (at least in podcast form), we put the wraps on another season of basketball for the Phoenix Suns, who were eliminated in six games by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. We talk about Game 6, Kobe Bryant‘s excellence (puke) and what’s next for the Suns and for Amaré Stoudemire, who can opt out of his contract to become a free agent in less than a month. We also look ahead to the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics which begins Thursday.

Segment 2 ( ) – The Arizona Diamondbacks are creating new and interesting ways to lose ball games these days. Monday, it was a walk-off balk. Tuesday it was a little more traditional–a walk-off home run. The D-backs are languishing in last place in the National League West, and we talk about what needs to be done to turn this team around. We also discuss the newest Diamonbacks’ pitcher-Dontrelle Willis, who was acquired in a trade with the Tigers on Tuesday, and whether or not he’s got anything left in the tank.

Segment 3 ( ) – LEFTOVERS!!! Tim Esmay finally gets the interim tag removed from his coaching title for ASU baseball…we’ll look ahead to ASU’s NCAA Regional which gets underway on Friday…LeBron tells Larry King that Cleveland has an advantage in signing him…Coyotes GM Don Maloney is named NHL GM of the Year, and we’ll look at the Stanley Cup Finals with Game 3 on tap for Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Segment 1 (0:00) - Ron Artest, a complete non-factor in Game 5 outside of taking two boneheaded shots with a minute to go, becomes the hero for the Lakers as he follows a Kobe Bryant airball and scores with no time left to give the Lakers the win and a 3-2 series lead. We discuss the game, what was good, what was bad, and whether or not the Suns will be encouraged by their comeback or crushed by their defeat.

Segment 2 (42:00) – Artest’s shot was nothing new for fans of Valley teams, so we discuss where it lies on the “pain scale” of memories in Phoenix sports. Is it up there with Super Bowl XLIII, Paxson’s shot and the ’97 Rose Bowl?

Segment 3 (63:18) – On the plate of leftovers today is the Diamondbacks’ continuing struggle, or more namely, the struggles of Dan Haren, Alvin Gentry’s battle with a grilled artichoke, Pat Tillman’s inclusion into the College Football Hall of Fame, and the U of A wanting to relocate some home games to the Valley.

Segment 1 (0:00) – The Suns shocked pretty much everyone not located in Phoenix with their 115-106 win over the Lakers. The boys and I break it down–from the Suns’ bench dominating play, to Kobe’s sour post-game attitude to Derek Fisher apparently having the longest toes in the world.

Segment 2 (29:09) – Alvin Gentry’s employment of a zone defense has changed the landscape of this series, as the Suns have won both games since switching almost exclusively to a 2-3. We talk about the fact that many people around the country are looking down their nose at the zone, and whether or not the Suns should be criticized for using it so much. (Spoiler alert: the answer to that last point is an emphatic ‘no’.)

Segment 3 (48:56) – We fire up some leftovers, including the NFL awarding Super Bowl 48 to New York/New Jersey in 2014, and whether it’s a good idea, the end of an ERA in the NFL, and Argentina’s World Cup coach looking for an excuse to show his wang in Buenos Aires.

Well, the Suns have other plans in mind, as evidenced by their 118-109 Game 3 victory to at least put the Lakers on notice. So it’s our goal here at STBNL to have Planet Orange chanting “We want Boston” in unison at the end of Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Segment 1 (0:00) – The focus is the Suns’ victory over the Lakers in Game 4–and all the reasons why it happened: Amaré playing with aggression and passion, Robin Lopez’s big game and the Lakers struggling against the Suns’ zone defense. We also talk about Steve Nash’s nose injury and whether or not it’ll have an effect on Game 4.

Segment 2 (40:05) – The Arizona Diamondbacks just finished up a 4-1 homestand, and got a couple of positive signs that their bullpen is coming around. The guys and I discuss the weekend, and the importance of the D-backs’ upcoming 9-game road trip to Colorado, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Segment 3 (66:13) – We hit some leftovers, including the Cardinals quarterback situation and the rumors surrounding the team’s reported interest in Marc Bulger and JaMarcus Russell, the firing of Mike Brown in Cleveland and the hiring of Doug Collins in Philly and Venus Williams’ outfit that’s causing a stir at the French Open.

The Lakers used a different formula in Game 2, with Kobe Bryant distributing to others more than scoring himself. It worked. The Lakers blistered the nets at a 57.7% clip, and scored 120+ points in back-to-back games for the first time all season.

Pau Gasol killed the Suns with 29 points, while Kobe chipped in with 21 and 13 assists. Hell, even Jordan Farmar made some big shots, canning two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter, when the Lakers broke the game open.

Some of the questions we ask in this STBNL Special Edition:

• Where is Amaré Stoudemire’s head at?
• Better yet, where is his effort and defense?
• Sure he had 15 assists, but did Steve Nash play well in Game 2?

Segment 1 (0:00) – Anybody remember the last time the Phoenix Suns played a basketball game? It was more than a week ago, and the layoff was substantially longer than a team gets during the All-Star break. But finally that layoff is over and the Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers get together tonight in Los Angeles in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The guys and I break down the series, and offer our predictions on what will transpire.

Segment 2 (36:42) – There’s still a lot of speculation on what happened to the Cleveland Cavaliers and more directly LeBron James in Game 5 of the Eastern Semifinals. We somewhat hesitantly talk about one of the more outrageous and salacious theories out there.

Segment 3 (61:53) – The Arizona Diamondbacks have finally made a significant change in their bullpen personnel, releasing Bob Howry and trading for Saul Rivera of the Cleveland organization. We discuss the ongoing D-Backs’ bullpen struggles and what direction they should go in moving forward.

Segment 2 (41:43) – A victory for the long-term future of hockey in Phoenix? That remains to be seen, but Tuesday night’s Glendale City Council vote was a step in the right direction. We talk about it here.

Segment 3 (1:04:49) – The Arizona Diamondbacks’ bullpen continues to struggle–and yes, that sentence may be the biggest written understatement ever. The Diamondbacks’ relievers turned a 4-3 game into a 13-3 loss last night at Chase Field. So once again, we explore options for the D-backs in this area. We also talk about the storm brewing in Seattle over whether or not Ken Griffey Jr. was actually sleeping in the Mariners clubhouse last Saturday missing a call to be a pinch hitter–and we discuss the asinine Defensive Rookie of the Year revote by the AP in the wake of Brian Cushing’s positive test for performance enhancing drugs.

However it shakes out, the threat of the team being relocated to Canada in time for the 2010-11 season is looking more and more possible.

Segment 3 (59:11) – LEFTOVERS– the D-Backs’ return home after a 6-5 road trip to entertain the Brewers, Lawrence Taylor is in a heap of trouble, we may have a new leader in the “biggest bust in NFL history contest” and is it possible that a 22-year high school graduate who’s also an illegal immigrant is now a 16-year old basketball star at the school made famous by Friday Night Lights? Why, yes it is. All that, plus we open the mailbag and get harrassed by automated customer service phone calls on our own show.
