A Slice of Americana

kimboslic1What’s the appropriate encore for a 14 second knockout loss to Seth Petruzelli? Kimbo Slice fans are still waiting for the answer from their fallen hero. It’s been 6 months and only Kevin Ferguson knows what Kimbo will do next.

Slice is contractually obligated to compete in 2 MMA fights with the Strikeforce promotions before 2010. During a recent interview with Dahalia Smith of the Nassau Guardian Slice appeared to be looking beyond his involvement in MMA and turned his attention to a future career in the sweet science.

Below is a rough road map down my projected Slice career path.

July-September 2009- Slice is slotted as a co-main event for Strikeforce’s debut card on CBS. Strikeforce could go the freak show route with a match versus super heavyweight Bob Sapp or a rematch with Seth Petruzelli.

November-December 2009-It’s going to be really hard for Strikeforce to invest in a guy when he says he going to jump ship after 2 fights. Assuming that Slice does not resign with Strikeforce and wipes his hands clean of MMA, I say the San Joe based promotion throws the best heavyweight they can find at Slice. Against current Strikeforce heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Paul Buentello, Slice has a puncher’s chance of walking away unscathed. Versus a top ten list of potential free agent big men (caused by the demise of Affliction before year’s end) the outlook appears even bleaker.

2010-By early 2010 Kimbo Slice will be 36 and will be finding out that it is very difficult to learn the nuances of boxing so late in his athletic career. If the losses pile up I would advise Kimbo Slice to swallow his pride and take the fat pay check from the highest bidder in the world of pro wrestling.

Slice would make a killing with WWE or overseas in Japan. Kimbo Slice is officially a pop culture personality; wherever he ends up people will talk about it and watch to see what unfolds next.
