Amica 19.7 Phoenix Triathlon Set for Sunday, Nov. 7

MEXSPORT/DAVID LEAH Photo via NewscomPROVIDENCE, RI – Triathletes ranging from amateurs to professionals will converge at Lake Pleasant Park on Sunday to compete in the 2010 Amica 19.7 Phoenix, when pros will be competing for a $20,000 prize purse.

The Amica 19.7 Phoenix sprint distance is one of two triathlons that will be held at Lake Pleasant Park this Sunday. In addition to the sprint distance, an international distance triathlon has recently been added. The new distance will feature a 1.5K swim, a 34K bike ride and a 10K run.

The international distance will kick off the day’s events at 7 a.m. The 19.7 sprint distance, which features a half-mile swim, a 16.1-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run, follows at 8 a.m. For a full course description of either race go to amicatriathlonseries.com/Phoenix/courseinfo.html.

The Amica 19.7 Phoenix is part of the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, a sprint distance series of events held throughout the country. The Amica 19.7 Phoenix is the final event in the 10-race series.

Athletes interested in competing in the Amica 19.7 Phoenix sprint or international distance can register at DNA Cycles, 7077 E. Mayo Blvd, Scottsdale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Race day registration will be held at Lake Pleasant Park from 5:30 to 6:45 a.m.
