Wednesday night during WEC 50 on Versus, the announcement was made that Phoenix had beaten out Nashville and Milwaukee in AMP Energy’s Hometown Takedown Contest.

WEC 53 will be held in Glendale at Jobing.com Arena some time in December.

Versus had cameras on hand at Upper Deck Sports Grill in Scottsdale when the winning announcement was made. Local fighter Jamie Varner was hosting a viewing party at that location.

“On behalf of AMP Energy and the WEC, we would like to congratulate the city of Phoenix for winning the Hometown Takedown contest,” said Justin Toman, Marketing Manager, AMP Energy. “There was tremendous support for the program all around the country and it was a close call between the top three cities. We know MMA fans in Phoenix will rally around this amazing opportunity.”

It’s the first time a WEC event will be held in Phoenix, which garnered more than 70,000 votes during the course of the contest to wrap up the win.
