Ryan Torain: Blue-collar Backs Take the Bus…

Hey Pitchfork Nation. Sorry about not posting in a while. This opportunity with the Redskins is a great one, so I’m committing almost every possible moment to trying to get better on the field. Learning the playbook is coming along nicely for me but the book is a bit different than in the past—some new concepts, some old concepts. Overall, the language they use has been a bit harder to learn.

In the limited amount of time I have, I’ve done some sightseeing. I really like the city; it seems to be a town with a lot of hard working young people. Lots of young people trying to make it in politics or the business world—quite similar to my experience on the football field. Lots of competition for them; lots of competition for me.

I’m excited to see more of the city as the weeks continue. Part of problem as I said before is being busy with minicamp. The other problem is that I don’t have transportation. I’ve actually taken the city bus a few times. HAHA . . . the last time I took the bus was when I was a freshman in high school—a bit different than what I normally ride in. But hey, I consider myself a blue-collar runningback, not afraid to hit that daily grind. I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done.

I want to encourage anyone to ask me any questions. I will do my best to answer them. Also please follow me on my Facebook fan page and on twitter @ryantorain. There you can check out pictures and my other week-to-week thoughts. On my facebook page, some friends and teammates had a fun time sharing some memories from our days at Butler Community College and ASU. Thanks for the support!! It means a lot. Much love.

Yo Ryan, huge Skins fan here. Got to say I'd never heard of you before today, when I was reading about the Skins backfield situation, but I've been impressed with what I've read about you and from your blog posts – you sound like a stand-up quality dude, never mind what you can hopefully bring to the team. I'm looking forward to seeing you in action.

I'm just wondering what your thoughts are about staying healthy. You've been in the league two years but haven't really played because of injuries, right? Were they freak injuries or reoccurring ones? Were you injured much in college?

Also, I know you want to be a starter, but where do you realistically see yourself fitting in the system this year? Are you a change of pace back, cause we really need someone in the backfield that can help us stretch the field?

Best of luck in camp and look forward to seeing you in games!

Best restaurant in DC is Zengo at 7th and H St NW. The kobe beef appetizer is top notch. On a weekend day, the Georgetown waterfront is a great place to hang out (Sequoia, Nick's). In fact, anywhere in Georgetown is great (Wisconsin St. and M).

I took the ASU shuttle bus from Lot 59 to Terrace Rd. but I can't remember the last time I took the public bus.

Hey Cuz D.C. is a party town period. The best nightlife hands down in my opinion. Stay focused and good luck with making the team.
