Washington D.C. sports journalist/radio host Tony Kornheiser has ruffled a lot of feathers lately.
Last month, he earned a two-week suspension for criticizing the wardrobe of fellow ESPN employee Hannah Storm (he also got in a not-so-veiled shot at Chris Berman during the same rant).
Last week, Kornheiser took to the airwaves on ESPN 980 in the nation’s capital, ranting about cyclists and bike lanes in and around D.C., saying “And they all, my God, with their water bottles in the back, and their stupid hats, and their shiny shorts, they’re the same kind of disgusting posers that in a snowstorm come out with cross-country skis on your block. Run them down.” Yikes.
He later softened his comments by saying to only “tap them”.
Through the magic of the internet and social media, Kornheiser’s comments were quickly brought to the attention of Lance Armstrong, who was in France training for the Tour de France. Armstrong was pretty clear with his thoughts on Kornheiser’s rant…

Well, after the twitter response, Armstrong actually spoke to Kornheiser, and then a few days after that, appeared on his show on ESPN 980. Listen to the interview below…

The road relationship between cyclists and motorists is obviously an issue in all major markets, not just Washington D.C. It’s nice to see the most prominent global name in cycling set straight an individual who spewed some really ignorant stuff on his radio show.
