The Cardinals Have Jamie Foxx Syndrome

anygiven_lI haven’t been able to put my finger on exactly what the Cardinals issues have been this season. One moment they are world beaters and the next they are struggling to beat a the “cowardly” Lions in Detroit. I’m no sports psychologist, I haven’t even stayed at a Holiday in Express, but I think I’ve diagnosed what’s wrong with this team.

The Cardinals are suffering from Jamie Foxx Syndrome.

This syndrome, which afflicts a small group of American sports teams, is characterized by a surprising rise to success followed by frustrating, confusing and inconsistent performances in between brilliant ones.

Think about it, Jamie Foxx broke onto the main Hollywood scene in 2004 when he co-stared in both critically acclaimed films, Collateral and Ray. He won an Oscar for his performance in Ray and followed up the success with box office bombs Stealth and Miami Vice. Just when everyone thought he had returned to his “Jamie Foxx Show” days, he bounced back with a great performance in the film Dreamgirls. It was short lived though as his latest performances, The Soloist and Law Abiding Citizen, left something to be desired.

    Sound familiar Cardinals fans?

Last post season the Cardinals arrived on the scene. They seemed to have finally gotten over the hump and become a solid NFL team. The first game of the regular season the Cardinals fell flat on their face losing to the San Francisco 49ers at home. In week seven the Cardinals pulled off an upset in New York on NBC against the Giants. As a result of the national television win, the team began to gain respect. Instead of building on the momentum, the Cards promptly lost to the less than stellar Panthers. They lose to the Titans in dramatic fashion but bounce back with a big upset against the Minnesota Vikings. You guessed it though, they lost the next week against the San Francisco 49ers and almost blew a seventeen point lead against the Lions.

No cure has been discovered for Jamie Foxx Syndrome but it is believed that after the last few stinkers both Foxx and the Cardinals have laid lately they’re due for a few big performances.
