With the end of the 2000’s just weeks away, we’re being inundated with “Best of the Decade” and “Worst of the Decade” lists put out by magazines, newspapers, radio stations and sports websites. Not that this bothers me, I love lists.
One national sports website getting into the act is SI.com, where Richard Deitsch has released his “Decade in Sports Broadcasting” lists.

His list has a local tinge to it as well. Bob Kemp, who has held down a slot on The Fan AM 1060 (KDUS) since 2002 was singled out as the best national sports radio host by Deitsch. Before landing in the Valley, Kemp held down the overnight slot on Sporting News Radio (formerly One on One Sports), and built quite a national following.
It’s no small feat to be named at the top of this list, considering Kemp hasn’t been on the national airwaves since 2002, and when you consider gigantic names like Jim Rome, Mike & Mike, Colin Cowherd and Dan Patrick were also on the list.
Sure he can be a bit salty with callers (which proves that he’s actually listening to what they have to say–it sounds basic, but trust me, that’s not always the case), but there’s nobody more prepared for a daily show than Kemp. One of the biggest compliments in the world of sports radio is when listeners and colleagues say a host “knows their stuff”. Bob Kemp knows his stuff.
“The SportsZone” with Bob Kemp can be heard weekdays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on The Fan AM 1060, and is streamed live here on Fanster.com
