Lady Luck seems to finally be with the Arizona Cardinals

_lady_luck_vintage_tattoo_style_drawingEntering the NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals and their fans were faced with plenty of talk about the dreaded “Super Bowl Hangover”. The team’s star player and Madden 2010 coverboy, Larry Fitzgerald, had to dodge talk about the “Madden Curse”. Not to mention the team shaking the horrible curse that has been known as, well, the Cardinals.

It seems, despite all of the possible “bad mojo”, it seems like Lady Luck now has a winter home in Arizona (And can you blame her? You can get a place for next-to-nothing in this market).

Maybe she felt bad for bailing on the Cinderella Cards in the final 2:40 of the Super Bowl. Seems to make sense seeing as the Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be the ones nursing the February hangover.

Don’t believe that the Cards have luck on their side? How do you explain the Super Bowl champs losing to the Raiders, Browns and Chiefs all in the last month? How do you explain that they are the ones on the verge of missing the playoffs while the Redbirds are about to wrap up their division?

Not enough? How about the fact that the Steelers’ Troy Polamalu shared the Madden cover with Fitzgerald and he’s the one who has missed a majority of the season because of injury? The “curse” decided to spare the Cards and hit Pittsburgh? Must be luck.

As a matter of fact, according to Pro Football Weekly the Cardinals have had the second healthiest season of all NFL teams. That right there is enough proof that Lady Luck, or at least the Football Gods, are smiling on them this season.

What about last week? The Cardinals were taking on Lady Luck’s favorite bed fellow this season, Brett Favre. As we all know, the 40-year old Favre looked half his age all season, that was until he took the field in Glendale. In a game that no one gave the Cardinals a chance, on national television, Lady Luck left Favre and the Vikings faster than Elin left Tiger.

In a week that could have seen the Cardinals’ NFC West lead shrink to one game over the 49ers with a trip to San Fran looming, they pulled off a giant upset and the Niners choked against Seattle. As a result, the Cardinals have a three-game lead and a chance to wrap up the division on Monday Night Football.

Believe it or not, the Cards have luck on their side and soon, they’ll have back-to-back NFC West Titles in their rafters. It must be due to Lady Luck, that or Ken Whisenhunt.
