The Cardinals had last second loss to the Titans coming to them

vince-youngThe Cardinals’ last second loss to Vince Young and the Titans was a tough one to take but Ken Whisenhunt and the Cardinals probably had it coming.

No, it wasn’t because Matt Leinart was their starting quarterback and Vince Young has a flare for the dramatic against him. The Cardinals had it coming to them because they’ve dodged more bullets than Neo in the three Matrix movies combined.

Since Ken Whisenhunt took the reigns of the franchise in 2007, the Cardinals, prior to yesterday, found themselves in four games that came down to the final play of regulation. The Cardinals won all four, three in crazy fashion.

In 2007 the Arizona Cardinals beat the Seattle Seahawks 23-20 on a last second field goal.

In 2008 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Cardinals allowed a last second field goal to tie the game at 24. The Cardinals won the game in overtime on a blocked punt.

Later on in 2008, the Cardinals held the San Francisco 49ers on a last second goal line stand. That stand included Frank Gore tripping over himself at the two yard line on what would have been an easy score (and when I say easy score, were talking Paris Hilton easy).

The Cardinals faced a similar situation this season against the Texans. Up by a touchdown, the Cards stopped Houston on three straight plays at the one yard line and saved the game.

It may have taken a heroic effort by Vince Young, but with six seconds left and the Titans on the Cardinals’ ten yard line, the odds were in Tennessee’s favor.

The Cardinals have won their fair share of nail biters with last second defensive heroics. Yesterday just wasn’t their day and that’s OK. They took away the long pass and the run and made Vince Young beat them with accurate, short passes.

The Cardinals played the odds and Vince Young burned them. That and the odds finally caught up with the Red Birds.
