This week Andrew Strickert of Total Titans exchanged some questions with me about the Cardinals/Titans game. Here are my questions for Andrew…
Eli: The Titans started 0-6 and have now won four in a row since then. What’s the reason for this turn around?
Andrew: Several things have happened. Vince Young has provided a spark on offense. On the other side of the ball some players are healthy again and those who were playing poorly have started playing better. As a whole, the defense is playing with more cohesiveness.
Eli: Do you feel confident with Vince Young as the Titans’ quarterback for this season and the future?
Andrew: I’m very impressed so far. He’s doing some things he’s never done before, things most people didn’t think he could do. He’s got to play well to keep his job and so far, he’s doing it very well.
Eli: If you were the Cardinals defense what would you do to stop Chris Johnson?
Andrew: In theory, you don’t let him reach the edge or hit a hole up the middle. Easier said than done. I’ve seen him turn corners that he shouldn’t have and outrun everyone. You also have to tackle surely. If he breaks a tackle he can take it all the way. The best way to stop him is to build a big lead and make the Titans abandon their running game.
Eli: What are the keys to the game for Tennessee?
Andrew: They’re much the same as when the Titans play the Colts. The Titans have to pressure the quarterback with a four man rush while playing good coverage. On offense, they have to run the ball and control the clock to keep Warner on the sideline. Also, they need to win the turnover margin and maintain good field position. They can’t let Warner have a short field. They need to make the Cards go 80 yards to score, not 40.
Eli: What’s your prediction for the game?
Andrew: When the Titans run the ball well they have a chance to beat anybody. They’re on a roll now and we could see them extend their winning streak to five games. Titans 24, Cardinals 21
