You may remember the Herculean effort turned in by the Arizona State defense last season in a 34-9 win over the UCLA Bruins at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.
The ASU defense scored an NCAA record 4 touchdowns in last year’s win. Saturday at the Rose Bowl, it was UCLA’s chance to return the favor.
Bruins cornerback Alterraun Verner intercepted a Samson Szakacsy pass and took it back 68 yards for a touchdown on Arizona State’s first possession of the day, and let’s just say things got worse after that.
UCLA’s defense forced 6 Sun Devil turnovers, including another defensive touchdown on a fumble return for a score by linebacker Akeem Ayers right before halftime in the Bruins’ 23-13 win over ASU in Pasadena.
With their third straight win, UCLA notches their 6th victory of the season, making them bowl-eligible. The loss was the 5th straight for ASU, who fell to 4-7 on the season, and ensured back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the 1946 and 1947 seasons.
