And then there’s this.
Jeff Metcalfe has reported that Dennis Erickson has suspended RB Ryan Bass indefinitely for the ever-mysterious “violation of team rules.”
The story was Twittered by the Arizona Republic a few minutes ago.
Bass has 173 yards on 23 carries in 2009, just 53 more yards than he had last season as a true freshman.
If you’ve been present at PFN Live throughout this season, we’ve talked at length about why Bass hasn’t been getting carries. Someone astutely pointed out to me last night VIA text message that they didn’t even see Bass on the sidelines.
It always came back to two things for me: his inability to secure the football and my personal belief that his head has never fully been committed to football over the last two seasons. It’s also well chronicled that he’s spent a good deal of time complaining about his lack of game action.
I have held off on reporting on Bass’ reported social networking exploits since I didn’t find them to be entirely newsworthy, but in the wake of the suspension, the fact of the matter is that, according to those who are mutual “Facebook friends” with me and Bass, the running back has been remarkably vocal on the web site regarding his disdain for the ASU coaching staff and how they aren’t using him enough.
Now, he’s not an option for the immediate time being.
This comes a day after true freshman Cameron Marshall, who jumped Bass on the depth chart before the Devils’ season opener with Idaho State, made his first career start and looked fairly impressive running the football despite fumbling on the game’s first possession.
