In a matchup of two of the league’s more pleasant surprises this season, the Colorado Avalanche scored an impressive 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday night.
Milan Hejduk had a two goals and an assist, and Paul Stastny added 3 assists for Colorado while Peter Budaj stopped 28 shots in his first action of the season.
Ed Jovanovski had the only goal for Phoenix, who has now lost two straight for the 3rd time this season. Jovanovski’s goal was his fourth of the season, which ties him for the team lead with Shane Doan, Radim Vrbata and Scottie Upshall.
The win keeps the Avalanche perfect at home this season (5-0-0), and their 24 points are tops in the Western Conference.
There’s no rest for the Coyotes, as they return to Jobing.com Arena in Glendale tonight to host the Chicago Blackhawks.
