Even an optimist like me knows there is trouble when, in less than a minute of play, the Colorado Avalanche score against us. In their hometown arena in the Mile High City, we knew the Avalanche would be a formidable opponent with their 10-3-2 record. We just didn’t know how much I guess.
The remainder of the 1st period and all of the 2nd were pretty lackluster so it couldn’t have prepared us for the complete meltdown of the 3rd. Thanks to Budaj’s impressive goaltending, only Ed Jovonovski was able to get through but Colorado did manage to get 3 other goals (and one, an empty netter, why?????) for a final score of 1-4. Side notes..both Mikkel Boedker (recalled from the AHL) and Peter Mueller were back in the lineup.
Dead even in shots on goal, the Avalanche just outplayed the Coyotes end of story. Can’t blame excessive penalties or bad calls for this one.
I guess we just couldn’t breathe…
