East Valley Tribune Shutting Down

Share

It’s the sad end of another era in The Valley.

The East Valley Tribune and it’s owners, Freedom Communications, has announced that the newspaper will cease operations on December 31, 2009.

The end for Phoenix’s other major daily metro paper has been in sight for some time now, considering the layoffs and visible cutbacks in coverage that we have experienced as consumers over the past year.

This is a dark day for Phoenix media.

I really wish the best to our colleagues at the Trib who have been so good to me, personally, over the past seven years that I have been covering the Devils. Specifically, current and past Tribune writers like Craig Morgan, Dan Zeiger, Scott Bordow and many others, including the late Bob Moran, all are great colleagues, writers and, most importantly, people.

This blog post, ironically, is the 1,000th in the history of Pitchfork Nation. It’s bittersweet to reach this pseudo-milestone of growth by reporting on the demise on one of our own.

You all should take a minute to go back and read this piece by Scott Bordow that rehashed Bob Moran’s old Sparky/Wilbur meetings right after Bob passed. It’s all that’s good about journalism and the folks over at the Tribune.
