Country music artist Toby Keith released a tribute song to his late friend and former Sun Wayman Tisdale today entitled “Cryin’ For Me (Wayman’s Song)”. Keith and Tisdale, both Oklahoma natives, were long time friends and shared a passion for music. Their professional paths crossed in 2008 when they recorded Never Gonna Give You Up together.
Keith, known for his country music, and Tisdale, known for his basketball skills and his amazing talent as a jazz bass player, were an unlikely pair but their work together and their friendship proved to have a lasting affect.
Tisdale passed away after a two year battle with cancer back in May of this year. Keith performed at his funeral.
Admittedly I’m not the biggest country music fan, but I couldn’t help but find myself moved by the song in remembrance of the former Suns forward. Tisdales passion for life, music, basketball and helping the community is something that touched many Suns and basketball fans over the years and Keith captured all of those things in his powerful tribute.
It’s obvious that those that got to know him on a personal level were even more impressed with the man. Keith’s tribute is a beautiful “goodbye” to his friend.
