erickson1031Giorgio Tavecchio kicked a 24-yard field goal with just :24 left, giving the 24th-ranked California Golden Bears a 23-21 win over Arizona State in front of a homecoming crowd of just 43,659 in Tempe.

The loss drops ASU to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Pac-10 play with games remaining against USC, Oregon, UCLA and Arizona. The Golden Bears are now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference standings.

ASU head coach Dennis Erickson spoke to the media following another tough loss, and commented on a number of subjects, including the Sun Devils changing their offensive philosophy due to injuries at the receiver position and more costly personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties which damaged the Sun Devils’ chances for an upset win. ASU was flagged 11 times for 123 yards on the day.
