Ed Jovanovski beat Chris Mason on a shot 3:37 into the overtime period, giving the Phoenix Coyotes a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale.

“The rebound came kinda right up the gut there and I drove the net,” Jovanovski said. “It just happened to hit my shaft and go in.”

The Coyotes fell behind when David Backes beat Ilya Bryzgalov with a wrist shot 3:22 into the 2nd period. But Captain Shane Doan answered with his first goal of the year 6:02 later, scoring on the power play, and snapping a Coyotes’ scoreless streak of over 166 minutes in the process. “It wasn’t exactly the prettiest goal of the year, but I’ll take anyone that goes in right now,” Doan said after the game.

The announced crowd for the Coyotes’ 2nd home game of the season was just 6,899. In the Coyotes’ home opener last Saturday, over 17,000 fans packed into Jobing.com Arena to watch the Desert Dogs lose to the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0.

The win pushes the Coyotes record to 4-2 on the year, and their 8 points puts them in a tie with the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Pacific Division.

The Coyotes continue their 4-game homestand Saturday night with a rare visit from the Boston Bruins to Jobing.com Arena. It will be Boston’s first visit to Glendale since October of 2007, when the B’s left town with a 3-1 win.
