Weber A Game-Time Decision

Guess whose kicking leg was swinging like a pendulum again last night?

Dennis Erickson said last night that after standout kicker Thomas Weber practiced for the first time in weeks last night that he would be a game-time decision for Saturday’s game with Washington.

Weber hasn’t played since the 50-3 win over Idaho State to open up the 2009 season.

DE told the gathered media yesterday that Weber is “60% healthy”…whatever that means. Jeff Metcalfe says that Weber was nailing field goals from 42 yards out, nine yards short of his career long of 53.

The alleged “healthy percentage” makes me think that Thomas will not be available for any kickoffs but, if he plays, would be good for extra points and shorter-range field goals.

If it happens, this has the possibility of being a big time mental boost for the team. It’s about having confidence in your special teams to put points on the board…something ASU certainly doesn’t have right now considering the out-of-bounds kickoffs and botched extra points and field goals from Bobby Wenzig over the last few weeks.

This all comes on the heels of coaches bringing in two walk-on kickers to push Wenzig in practice earlier this week.
