The Arizona Fall League, a showcase for the up-and-coming talent in Major League Baseball, is getting set to start it’s 18th season this fall when games get underway on October 18th.
And now, we know which players baseball fans in the Valley will be able to see at 5 different Valley ballparks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are sending five players to the league, and all five will play with the Scottsdale Scorpions. The five players are pitchers Bryan Augenstein and Cesar Valdez, infielders Brandon Allen and Pedro Ciriaco and outfielder Collin Cowgill (no, not the guy from ESPN radio.)
Other prominent players who will be in the Grand Canyon State this fall include Stephen Strasburg, who recently signed the richest rookie deal in big league history after being selected first overall in the June draft by the Washington Nationals. Strasburg will play for the Phoenix Desert Dogs, who have won the last five AzFL championships. Yankees prized pitching prospect Ian Kennedy, who is recovering from aneurysm surgery, will play for the Surprise Rafters.
Former ASU players C.J. Retherford (White Sox), Tuffy Gosewisch (Phillies), and Ike Davis (Mets) will also participate in the Fall League.
