Daniel Cabrera throws hard. Really hard. It’ll be up to the Diamondbacks to help him with his control.
The Arizona Diamondbacks made it official today, signing right handed pitcher Daniel Cabrera to a minor league contract.
The 28-year old Cabrera, once a jewel of the Baltimore Orioles organization, was a free agent after being released by the Washington Nationals in early June. Cabrera was 0-5 with a 5.85 ERA for the Nats this season.
Cabrera’s best season was 2004, his rookie year, when the fireballer went 12-8 with a 5.00 ERA, finishing 3rd in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, behind only Oakland shortstop Bobby Crosby and White Sox reliever Shingo Takatsu.
In his career, Cabrera 48-64 overall with a 5.09 ERA in 156 appearances (154 starts). Once is Visa process is complete, Cabrera will travel from the Dominican Republic and report to the Reno Aces, the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate.
