Betting The Over/Under

Jon Wilner is at it again.

As usual, the crack college sports reporter for the San Jose Mercury News beat me to getting to be the first to post the Las Vegas futures odds on the upcoming 2009 season.

So, for the addict gamblers out there (which I would probably be one of if I made more money), here’s the info you’ve been yearning for.

As for Arizona State, they come in at 25/1 odds to take home the 2009 Pac-10 championship. They share those same odds with…brace yourself…the Arizona Wildcats.

As always, USC is the odds-on favorite to win the 2009 title, but this time, they’ve posted astounding 5/11 odds to do it. Between the Trojans and the Devils and Wildcats come California (2/1), Oregon (4/1), UCLA (9/1) and Oregon State (16/1).

The only teams with worse odds to win the title are Stanford (40/1), Washington (70/1) and those funloving Washington State Cougars (90/1).

Las Vegas and the fine folks at their casinos also released the over/unders on win totals for each of the Pac-10 teams and, just like their title chances, Arizona and Arizona State both are getting 6.5 wins.

I decided against explaining how a team can earn half a win. The difference, though, is that ASU is getting even odds to go UNDER 6.5 while Arizona is getting a -110 line to go under that figure. That means that Vegas thinks that it’s more likely that Arizona State comes up short over the Wildcats.

No pressure on USC; they’re only expected to win 10.5 games. Even worse, possibly, is that the sportsbook didn’t even list O/U win totals for Stanford, Washington or WSU. I guess it’s no fun to put 0.5 up for the Huskies.
