(Photo: Glenn James/Getty Images) We haven’t even officially entered the post season that, according to various sources, the Suns have already offered half of they roster to every team in the NBA.
The latest, was Marc Stain on ESPN.com who only yesterday wrote that
Phoenix is expected to make Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O’Neal available in trades this off-season, just as it did before the February trading deadline, but NBA front-office sources say that the Suns will soon be getting trade pitches for Nash, ready or not.
Steve Kerr of course said “I have no interest in trading him” which basically means “you better make some real good offer“. Trading Nash would be the one of the great mistakes in Suns history and will immediately have a few undesirable effects on the Suns record next season and on ticket sales, which given the times we’re living won’t be a big surprise.
“The thing about our financial situation is we’re one year away from having flexibility,We’re going to make it through this year one way or the other” said Kerr to the Arizona Republic on the day Alvin Gentry became the Suns Head Coach for the next 3 years. It means the Suns are looking to contend in 2010, while more or less hope next season isn’t so bad that their great fans decide it’s better to watch the games on TV instead of spending 80-something dollars for a night at the Center.
Back to Nash and trying to guess what will happen to our great point guard. I think Kerr will meet Nash and he’ll offer him a 3-year deal. Will it be a real offer or just one of those “I-had-to-offer-but-hope you-don’t-take-it” move, pro sports team occasionally in order to justify to the fans that they did their best to keep him? It has to be seen.
We all know, in professional sports generally it’s all about money. Not in this case. Steve is different. I hope know he is.
He has already more money than he’ll ever need and I think, from the last contract of his basketball life he’ll only ask for one thing: RESPECT.
Whatever happens, I just hope the Suns show respect to the great Steve Nash and offer him one last chance to the championship. Hiring Alvin Gentry to coach the Suns full time is a good move to begin with.
Yours Truly, Steve Fan
