Let's Hope We See More of This Over the Next Few Years

Finally, some good Suns news.  It looks like I won’t be quitting the Suns after all.

According to Paul Coro, the Suns and Alvin Gentry are close to finalizing a deal that would remove the interim tag on Gentry and place him as the Suns head coach for multiple years.

In a quote from Coro’s article, Kerr says, “it’s all going well.  We’ve had productive conversations the last couple days. Hopefully, we’ll get something done. We’ve got the ball rolling. We just have to keep the discussion going and hopefully get something done soon.”

Translation: A deal is being made we just can’t talk about the specifics until all is finalized.

Coro says the Suns have not explored other coaching options and Gentry has not looked at other destinations.  In an article in the East Valley Tribune just a week ago, Suns owner Robert Sarver sounded less than optimistic about a Gentry deal stating, “I’m hopeful he will be, but there are no guarantees.” This certainly irritated Suns fans since Gentry did an outstanding job taking over for Porter mid-season.  And when I say ‘fans’, I mean me.

Stay tuned for more updates as soon as a deal becomes official.
