The Suns, the Golden State Warriors and the NBA announced today that the teams would take part in the NBA’s third outdoor preseason game in as many years October 10th. The game once again will take place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA and will be televised nationally on TNT.
“The excitement surrounding last year’s outdoor game was more than we could have imagined,” Suns’ President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts told the Suns media relations department. “It’s the perfect setting in the perfect arena at the perfect time of year. The response from our fans, the Indian Wells community and TNT viewers made it an easy decision to return.”
“We are pleased to partner with the NBA and the Phoenix Suns organization to once again bring this distinctive game in a spectacular setting to TNT,” David Levy, President of Turner Sports and Turner Broadcasting Sales, Inc. the Suns media relations. “Last year’s outdoor game proved to be an entertaining and successful experience for our viewers and broadcast team, as well as a distinctive opportunity for our advertising partners. We look forward to returning to Indian Wells with our NBA on TNT crew for this year’s contest.”
The Suns took place in the NBA’s first and second outdoor ventures. The first was 35 years ago, September 24th 1972, when the Suns led by Connie Hawkins and Dick Van Arsdale took on the Milwaukee Bucks led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson in Puerto Rico. The Suns won the game 116-103.
Last year was the Suns second time participating as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Suns 77-72 at Indian Wells.
