Mavericks Fail – Day 2 – First Test

When we launched the Mavericks Fail campaign, I (obviously) figured it wouldn’t sit well with Mavs fans.  To be fair, I tried to structure the post so that fans knew it was all in good fun and how ironic it was that Suns fans have resorted to cheering against another team just as much as we cheer for the Suns.

However, in the span of less than 24 hours, I’ve been called every name in the book you can think of.  Whether it be a post on a message board (I’m still waiting for ‘Blog Maverick‘ to pick this up) or an email sent directly to me, it is clear that Mavs fans don’t like us.

And based on our post yesterday, we anticipated that.

It really doesn’t change, though, our wish for the Suns to make the playoffs.  Yes, if they get the 8th seed, we realize they will play the Lakers.  But we here at Fanster don’t see them as an invincible force that no one can beat.  It will be difficult, no doubt, but I don’t think Mavs fans would give up (see Playoffs 2007 – “We Believe”).  And Suns fans certainly won’t.

Though we generally have received hate mail from Mavs fans (understandably), there is one columnist that gets it.  Our friend Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com said in his post regarding our campaign yesterday,

“…we’re going to take this the right way, because DallasBasketball.com is a faith-based website (i.e., we have faith in the Mavs) and because all the media kids in the Valley of the Sun are friends of ours. And really, now that the Phoenix-based blogosphere has launched a faux-hate “Mavs FAIL’’ campaign, isn’t it the ultimate sign of respect?”  Mike continues, “… because the Arizona effort to root for the Suns has resulted in freak Amar’eye injuries, rumors about the premature eNashculation of their MVP, and nasty gossip that has Sarver paying Kerr with Bernie Madoff-issued IOUs.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself, Mike – “Amar’eye”, “premature eNashculation.”  Our friend Fish gets it.  And those terms were damn funny!

The Pistons visit Dallas tonight and it will put our campaign to the test.  Will negative energy work?  Will the Pistons win?  Will we look like idiots?  We want to hear your thoughts below on why the campaign will work tonight.

Go Suns!  Fail Mavs!
