The newest Arizona Cardinal, Jason Wright

cardinalsThe Arizona Cardinals today signed free agent running back Jason Wright, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, to a 2-year contract.

The 5 foot 10, 210 pound Wright, a 5-year veteran out of Northwestern, has carried 159 times for 588 yards and 2 touchdowns in his pro career. He’s also adept as a receiver, catching 46 passes for 389 yards and a touchdown over the last two seasons.

He’ll replace J.J. Arrington, who signed with Denver, as the Cardinals’ primary third down back. But Wright may have trouble filling Arrington’s other role as a kick returner for the Cardinals. He’s only had 5 returns in his career, averaging 16.2 yards per return.

But Wright does possess some skills that Arrington lacked. Most notably, singing. According to his Cleveland Browns’ bio, Wright sang the National Anthem before a Northwestern basketball game in 2003.

And he’s smart. Wright was a double major in psychology and pre-med at Northwestern, and scored in the 92nd percentile on the MCAT exam. Take that Gaylord Focker!
