You would think the official social network of the Suns would be a safe place for the team’s fans to meet up and commiserate about their latest misfortune without being ridiculed. Too bad fate is a cruel mistress.
Take a look at the picture of PlanetOrange.net’s front page above. That is not a doctored image, the Suns really have a banner of Amare Stoudemire with an ad for their “Win corrective eye surgery” contest directly above it.
Damn you fate, it’s not funny (OK, maybe a little, but we’re still mourning the loss of our newly regained hope).
According to the site the contest is pretty easy…
To enter, just create a video (60 seconds or less) explaining why you deserve a vision correction procedure and upload it to Planet Orange - the official social network of the Phoenix Suns by March 13!
Ten finalists will be chosen and awarded a free vision exam to determine the best procedure to fit their needs. Then all qualified finalist’s videos will be posted and fans will vote for their favorite video. Voting will take place April 1-10, 2009. Good luck!
I’m guessing the 60-second video of Amare getting poked in the eye by Al Thorton wins him the free corrective surgery, right? If not, there better be a damn good parody of the incident that does.
If only Amare wore his Suns glasses at night, we wouldn’t have this issue.
Memo to the Suns web department, change the ad, or the depression rates on Planet Orange will be on the rise even more than they already are.

What about the irony that Amar’e’s surgery wasn’t done by Schwartz????
Schwartz does lasik. When Amare had the Lasik he did that surgery. This is a very specialized surgery that must be done by a retinal specialist.
