The Phoenix Suns announced today that power forward Amare Stoudemire has underwent successful surgery to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye.
Stoudemire can not participate in physical activity for 8 weeks following the surgery.
“We are very glad to hear that Amar’e should have a 100 percent recovery relative to his vision and his long-term prognosis is excellent,” General Manager Steve Kerr told Suns.com. “Obviously, it is very disappointing to lose him at this time. We are all very excited about the progress the team is making, but Amar’e’s health and the health of all our players is our number one concern.”
The injury occurred during a defensive play in the Suns 142-119 win over the Clippers in which he scored 42 points and grabbed 11 boards.
