Rudy Gay AND Shawn Marion to Phoenix?

[Ben's note: This is obviously not going to happen now that Marion has been traded to the Raptors.]

Well, this is interesting…

Yahoo! Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski reported today that there are now three-team talks between the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and Miami Heat.

Wojnarowski writes, “The proposed multiplayer trade is fluid, but the framework would include the Suns receiving a package that includes Miami forward Shawn Marion and Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay. Miami would send rookie Michael Beasley to the Grizzlies. More players would be needed to balance out salary-cap rules.”

Obviously, Amare Stoudemire would be headed to Miami, as the Heat think they could get him to a long term deal before his contract is up in 2010.

This is certainly an intriguing offer for the Suns.  There would need to be “fillers” included, probably from all teams, but getting both Marion and Gay is certainly interesting…

As more and more teams confirm they don’t have an interest in Shaq, trading Stoudemire (obviously) seems to be the more likely possibility.  It is unclear if this will change if Porter is fired.  Though, there have been numerous people that don’t like Rudy Gay in a Suns uniform, I STRONGLY disagree.  Remember when Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson played together?  Jason Richardson and Rudy Gay would essentially be a replica of that, a better replica.  Grant Hill would probably still start with Rudy coming off the bench.  Last time I checked, that JJ/Q tandom was pretty good…

My guess (note the assumption) is that Barnes and/or Dudley would be included in the deal, since we’d have so many 3’s and 4’s.

Let’s say this deal (or a version of it) happens.  Here is what the rotation would look like.  Again, there weren’t any details about fillers/other players (and the Suns still have to sign a 13th player) but here’s somewhat of an idea.

PG:  Nash/Dragic/maybe the 13th roster spot they have to sign today?

SG:  Richardson/Barbosa

SF:  Hill/Gay/Tucker?

PF:  Marion/Amundson

C:  Shaq/Lopez

Certainly fun to speculate and think about.  Don’t forget, Marion has a large expiring contract, so that would be very enticing to Sarver.
