Change We Can Believe In

Share

Something’s going to change with the Suns this year.  And all I ask is, when that change comes, it gives us something to believe in.

There’s a lot of turmoil surrounding the Suns these days.  And that’s an understatement.  Looking back at the past 5 years…I feel lucky, I feel saddened, I feel fortunate, I feel disappointed, I feel defeated, and I feel empty.  But I’d do it again in a heartbeat.  No questions asked.

Now, with a sense of impending doom and virtually hearing the windows being shut, all I’m asking for is just one more shot.  Just one more run in the playoffs.  Just one more chance.  That’s it.  Then, if it doesn’t work, I can accept that without anger, hostility, and depression.  Kind of.

Hey, if it doesn’t work; let’s rebuild.  I’m cool with that.  And the rebuilding process can be even more exciting.

But I think we all deserve just one more chance at watching the Suns go for a title. Is that too much to ask?  Probably.

Is it even feasible?  Probably not.

But Suns fans need hope.  They need something to rally around.  They need to feel a sense of pride again.  It’s clear that something is going to happen.  Whether it’s a trade or a firing…something changing is seemingly inevitable

All I’m asking is when that change comes, please God, let it be something to give us hope.  Let it be something that we can rally around.  Let it be something that changes the landscape of things in not just the West, but the entire NBA.  Let it be something that can create something special.  I don’t think that’s too much to ask, especially after being so close…and hearing the windows shutting…

And, yes, it’s possible.  Look at the deal the Lakers pulled off last year.  Look at what happened to the Pistons when they got Rasheed.  Am I being too optimistic?  Maybe.  Who cares?  The right piece could ignite the team, the league, and most importantly the fans.  Again, this could either be a player or coach.  Doesn’t matter.  Just something.

“But Ben, look at what Kerr’s done in the past - what makes you think he’ll change?” - Yes, but look at what Danny Ainge pulled off last year.  Many thought he was one of the worst executives in the league with his “youth movement.”  But with a couple key moves he not only saved his job, he won Executive of the Year along with a Championship ring.

You just never know.

Hey, my posts (admittedly) have been pretty morose the past couple weeks.  And I like to think I’m a pretty positive guy.  But good gracious is it hard to watch the Suns play with a lack of passion on top of all the negativity surrounding the team.  But not all hope is lost.

I’m still reserving judgement.  I’m still holding out hope.  I’m still looking forward to that last run.

And it could be the best yet.
