The Suns and the Wizard of Oz

Maybe it’s because the Suns’ game ended so late, or maybe it’s because they lost to the Spurs again, but the Suns remind me of the Wizard of Oz.

The Suns have been strolling the yellow “Larry O’Brien Trophy” road for 4 years but at the end of the road there hasn’t been a championship, but rather just a man, , behind the curtain, surrounded by bags of cash that once were draft picks such as Rajon Rondo . His name? The Wizard of PHX.

You’ve got the “Tin ManAmare Stoudemire who is looking for heart so he can rebound and defend on a regular basis.

Then there is the “Cowardly LionTerry Porter who is looking for courage to tell his players that “Seven Seconds or Less” is dead and that defense and half-court offense is the new norm.

Steve Kerr is “the Scarecrow” looking for the brains to figure out how to fix the mess the Suns find themselves in and win the elusive NBA title.

The Wicked Witch would have to be David Stern who most Suns fans blame for the suspension of and Boris Diaw, and not winning an NBA championship.

There’s Mike D’Antoni who is “Auntie Em“, the person all Suns fans hope is there when they wake up from this bad dream.

is “Dorothy” just looking for his way home to D’Antoni, run and gun, and his apartment in Manhattan.

is there too. He’s Toto. He’s got the hair and he is pretty much just there; serving no real purpose.

Bryan Colangelo is the Good Witch of the North who is the only one that can help the Suns find their way home (too bad he is Canada now thanks to the Wizard of PHX).

The unfortunate thing is this isn’t Hollywood and no matter how much Suns fans click their heels and say “there’s no place like home”, they aren’t waking up from this bad dream. They’ve pulled back the curtain, seen the Wizard, and now realize that the window has closed on their championship dreams. The Suns are stuck along their yellow brick road heading in the wrong direction.
