Pick and Roll: Guys you’d most like to see in a Suns uniform

Share

For this week’s Pick and Roll, Mark and I decided to talk some fantasy basketball trying to find out the guy we’d most like to see in a Suns uniform. No Kobe or Lebron, but we came up with a couple of interesting names.

It was interesting that Mark and I came up with prototypical fundamentally sound basketball players. Could it be some kind of reaction to the latest version of the Suns?

Mark:His name is Danny Granger (AP Photo/Darron Cummings).

Ask a friend of mine who is an avid Pacers fan and he’ll tell you Granger is already the second best Pacer in the history of the franchise, behind only Reggie Miller.  Quite the praise, especially when considering it’s just Granger’s fourth year in the league.

The young man does it all for the Pacers, on both ends of the floor.  He reaches deep into his bag of old man movesto score inside and outside seemingly at will.  He’s a swiss army knife of a player who leads his team in steals, blocks, and of course, scoring.

Think Shawn Marion with a handle and outside shooting touch.  Think Grant Hill before his ankles became a science experiment.  Think Scottie Pippen.

Now think of this prototypical small forward in a Suns uniform.  Brings a smile to my face.

Steve Fan: My guy is Deron Williams (AP Photo/David Zalubowski), the Jazz 6-3 PG.

I’d love to have him in a Suns uniform, he could lead the team for the next 10 years. Deron is the most complete “classic” point man in the NBA. He’s great in transition and perfect in the half court offense. He’s one of the best PG defender in the League and can score with the best of them.

If Williams were in NYC or Chicago, instead of the Land of the Middle, he would be a Wheaties Box superstar, hailed as the best point guard in the nation. Williams led Illinois to the NCAA Championship game and won the Olympics in 2008.

The University of Illinois product averaged over 10 assists per game over the last two season while scoring 18.8 and 16.9 points a night. But he’s much more than stats, Deron is a real no-nonsense leader on the court and a fighter; did you know he won two Texas State Wrestling Championship as a kid? He was even proposed to President Obama as Chief of Staff.

How about having Deron next to Danny Granger in the same back court? Brings an even bigger smile to my face.

All said and done, here’s a photo of Deron and Danny signing their new Suns contract…

Now, Let us know who would you like to see in a Suns uniform

Yours truly, Steve Fan
