BJD crunches numbers, humor does not ensue

Bored out of my mind at my Clark Kent job and acting on a suggestion made last night by my younger brother, I perused every Suns box score for Amare’s points and rebounds, and how they shake out in wins and losses.  Hollinger and those guy have fancy pants formulas and programs.  Me, I have basketball-reference.com and bleeding eyeballs.

What my brother was curious about was the Suns W-L record when Amare grabs 10 or more rebounds.  Well, Rob, they’re 8-6.  Sooooooo…you’re wrong.

The Suns do not play significantly better when Amare is rebounding and rebounding well.

Wondering how the Suns fare when Amare puts up more than 20 points?  16-14.  Sensing a theme here?  The Suns are 8-5 when Amare puts up 20+/10+, 10-6 when he puts up 20+ points but grabs less than 10 rebounds.

Here’s where the numbers get weird.  14 times this season Amare has not scored 20+ points in a game OR grabbed 10+ rebounds.  That in itself strikes me as odd, but what’s even more strange is the Suns record in those game: 9-5.  When Amare is at his worst, the Suns winning percentage is at its highest.

The most surprising info I gathered from my crack research was the Suns record when Stoudemire scores less than 20 points but grabs more than 10 rebounds: 0-0.

Does this point to a player who doesn’t give his all if not involved in the offense?  Nothing is for certain, and I did nothing but look at wins, losses, points, and rebounds, but it sure doesn’t reflect well on Amare.
