It’s hard to believe that the Arizona Diamondbacks have been around long enough to have former players receiving Hall of Fame votes, but they have. And three of them did appear on various ballots in the voting announced earlier today.
None of the former Diamondbacks are headed to Cooperstown, but leadoff hitter extraordinaire Rickey Henderson and former Red Sox slugger Jim Rice will be making acceptance speeches this summer.
As far as the D-Back contingent, first baseman Mark Grace received 22 votes, third baseman Matt Williams got 7 votes (including one from longtime Tucson columnist Corky Simpson) and the man who scored the winning run in the 2001 World Series, Jay Bell, received 2 votes.
I always liked Jay Bell, like I said, he scored the winning run in the Diamondbacks’ only World Championship, but is there really two people on this planet that believe he is worthy of Hall of Fame status?
Anyway, here’s the complete Hall of Fame balloting.
