First of all, I wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy Christmas 2008. And so does the Gorilla.
I, along with many of you, will be with my family opening gifts, eating, and watching the Spurs visit the Suns on Christmas Day at 12:30.
This could be a very good Christmas for me and my loved ones, or I could inevitably ruin it…much like last year when the Lakers beat the Suns. For those that aren’t familiar with me, my mood directly correlates with how the Suns are doing. Even in the off-season. Yes, it is pathetic but that’s the way it is and I really don’t see it changing soon…if ever.
Originally, I wasn’t that excited for this game. Who knows why. Maybe it’s because of how the season started with all of the changes in staff and style. Maybe it was because in all honesty, the Suns have bigger problems to worry about than the Spurs. Maybe it was because of the clear rejuvenation the Suns recently went through acquiring Jason Richardson and winning 3/4 games with him in a Suns uniform.
None of these really matter now. I’ve had 4 days to get excited for the Spurs coming to town and I’m pumped.
Sure, it may not have the same sizzle as it once did. But my deep seeded hatred for the Spurs is as alive as ever. And you can believe the Suns want this game big time.
This game also has bigger implications than I once thought. On opening night, the Suns beat the Spurs in San Antonio without Manu Ginobli. Though it was a good start to the season, the Suns have obviously struggled through the first 25 games trying to find their identity…but so have the Spurs (yes, I know they have been without Parker and Ginobli for a while). The Spurs are starting to find their stride winning their last 3 compiling a record of 18-10. The Suns have seemingly regained their step winning their last 5 home games beating the Nuggets, Magic, and Utah (teams with a .663 winning percentage). So, in short, it’s a big game for both teams. Plus, the game is on national television…and us fans know how the Suns have fared on national T.V. in the past.
I found the below video while surfing through Suns videos on YouTube today and I literally watched it 5 times in a row. This is a perfect preview for the game tomorrow. It even has a nice touch of the season with a great version of Carol of the Bells in the background.
So, turn up the volume and take a look. Get psyched for the game. Relive the rivalry. Leave a comment below…and have a great time watching what I think will be a fantastic game.
