A report in the Arizona Republic claims that former Sacramento King and University of New Mexico head coach Reggie Theus would be interested in a shot at the University of Arizona head coaching job vacated by Lute Olson.
In a one line quote, that was turned into an entire article, Theus said, “Of course, I would be interested in a great job like Arizona.”
It’s assumed he also would enjoy any job that included a pay check and a chance to coach again.
The University of Arizona responded by saying “while we are honored that Coach Theus would consider us as an option for his future employment, we would much rather just wait for Hang Time on DVD. We feel it is a much more cost effective way to experience Theus as a coach”.
Another thing prohibiting Theus from the UofA job is the no shoes, no shirt , no service or coaching job sign that is on display at McKale Center in Tucson.
There is no word on whether the Deering Tornadoes will give Theus a good letter of recommendation.
Dick Butkus is also rumored to have interest in the position.
(Note: the preceding piece was satire and involved many references to an obscure NBC Saturday morning show from the 1990s in which Reggie Theus played the head coach.)
