Here at Fanster.com, we’ll be spending the last few weeks of 2008 counting down the biggest sports stories in the Valley over the last 12 months.

Jimmie Johnson must love Phoenix. Two Sprint Cup starts, two more wins, on the way to a record-tying third-straight Sprint Cup title.
In April, Johnson took the checkered flag in the Subway Fresh Fit 500, over Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin for his first win of the year. In November, Johnson won the pole, and held on to win the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 over Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray. It was Johnson’s 7th win on the season, and his 3rd straight win at P.I.R. He became the first driver to win three consecutive Sprint Cup Championships since Cale Yarborough won three in a row from 1976 to 1978.
On second thought, I guess he wins everywhere, not just Phoenix.
