Top 25 Phoenix Sports Stories of 2008 – #25 – Holmes beats Mickelson in playoff at FBR

Here at Fanster.com, we’ll be spending the last few weeks of 2008 counting down the biggest sports stories in the Valley over the last 12 months.

J.B. Holmes buried an 8-foot putt on the first playoff hole to beat former Arizona State All-American Phil Mickelson at the 2008 FBR Open at the TPC of Scottsdale. It was Holmes’ 2nd FBR victory in the last three years. Holmes won just over $1 million for only his 2nd PGA Tour victory. Not bad for 4 days work, huh?

Mickelson had won the tournament twice, in 1996 and 2005.
