Who knew that at the Roadrunners/Wranglers game on Saturday I would turn into Professor Hockeygal? Traditionally my daughter and I will go down to the glass, watch warm-ups and try to get a player to toss out a puck to us. To date we have had many tossed out to us (thank you Coyote Shane Doan) but it’s typically survival of the fittest and at 5′2….well let’s just say I am the weak gazelle of the herd.

The Roadrunner game was no exception. Along with several small children and their parents, we were joined by a young woman from St. Louis who had never been to a hockey game. After chatting for a few minutes I noticed that our small gathering was less than energetic. Never one to allow for lethargy, I demonstrated a good glass rattle. Fascinated, the children including my own, followed suit. Our tourist friend tried with closed fists which I tsked tsked.

Soon I had our little row banging like booze soaked die hards!

And lo and behold, we caught the Roadrunners’ attention. Soon we had pucks flying out to us and the weak gazelle claimed a small victory…a puck of her own!

Class dismissed
