Troy Nolan, who intercepted a pass and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown in Arizona State’s 34-9 win over UCLA on Friday, has been named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week.
With UCLA driving down by 8 points, Nolan deflected a Kevin Craft pass at the goal line, intercepted it, and ran it back the length of the field down the sideline to increase the Sun Devils’ lead to 24-9.
Nolan also had 8 tackles in the game, and was one of four ASU defenders (Paul Unga, Travis Goethel and Mike Nixon) to score a touchdown. ASU’s four defensive touchdowns tied an NCAA FBS record.
On the season, Nolan has 4 interceptions for 167 yards, and has scored 3 defensive touchdowns (2 interception returns, 1 fumble return). The senior from Los Angeles has 10 interceptions for 296 yards and 5 defensive touchdowns in his Sun Devil career.
Running back Jeremiah Johnson of Oregon won the offensive honor, and USC kicker David Buehler the special teams honor.
