Shaq&Nash did it again. A well rested Shaq scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Nash (AP Photo/Jim Mone) added 20 points and 6 assists to lead the Suns past the Timberwolves 110-102.
Minnesota has been a tough place to play for the Suns in recent years, so a win was a very good news anyway. The Suns, so to speak, played “well enough to win“.
So far, with the exception of the Chicago game, the Suns have won the games they were supposed to win, while losing to the better teams. Their current 11-5 record is a good starting point for the rest of the season.
Al Jefferson led the Twolves with 28 points and 17 rebounds including an amazing 12 on offense.
Phoenix shot a very good 53.6 percent in the game and were able to win the game despite the fact Minnesota had 21 offensive rebounds resulting in 23 more shots than the Suns. Fortunately for the Suns, Minnesota shot a poor 39-for-92 or 42.4 percent. In other words, the Twolves stink.
All Phoenix starters scored in double figures as the Suns started strong in the first quarter making 14 of their first 20 shots.
Coach Porter used 10 players in the game. Once again Goran Dragic failed to set foot on court as Singletary was used in relief of Nash, since Steve played an unheard 43 minutes against the Thunder the night before. So much for the deep rotation.
One final note, Boris Diaw seems the odd man out right now. He played, as it has often been the case this year another anonymous 20 minutes without taking a shot. Maybe it’s time to trade Boris somewhere to get some backcourt help.
The Suns will now celebrate Thanksgiving with a day off before facing the 7-8 Miami Heat (fresh off a 40-point loss to the Blazers) on Friday night (6 PM) at the US Airways.
The Heat game comes with some very interesting stories attached to it: Shaq playing against his former team and the Matrix returning to Phoenix. Plus a chance to watch rookies Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers and one of the great player in the game, D-Wade.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Save the Turkeys!
Yours truly, Steve Fan
