This one hurts more than normal.
Not one fan in the crowd left this game before the end of regulation. And no one dared utter a word on their way out of the stadium.
It was a hard fought battle. It was a solid, well played, defensive game. But the opposing team…the better team found a way to come out on top.
And as Wildcat fans poured out of the stadium, the throng of Oregon State fans in the stadium, cheered in jubilation and shock that their team had just come out on top.
You can look for a storyline all you want in this game, but the bottom line is that this Oregon State team is a damn good team. I have no doubt in my mind they will go to the Rose Bowl.
Playing without their starting quarterback Lyle Moevao, sidelined by a shoulder injury, the Beavers also lost their star tailback Jacquizz Rodgers, the Pac-10’s leading rusher, to a shoulder injury on their second possession. But the Beavers remained unfazed and found a way to roll out 390 total yards from scrimmage.
As for Arizona…well, that was by far the hardest loss to stomach this season. The upset was within reach. The win would have catapulted them into the upper echelon on the Pac-10. Now, they have lost two straight and have to win against bitter rival ASU to reach the seven win mark.
It is not going to be easy, but a win against ASU and a solid bowl performance can redeem this season.
