Phoenix Desert Dogs second baseman Chris Nelson, of the Colorado Rockies, had an excellent game against the neighboring Scottsdale Scorpions. The Desert Dogs hang on to their first-place lead as the defeat the Scottsdale Scorpions by a score of 6-15. With a nine run difference between the two teams, Nelson contributed with five of the runs on Thursday afternoon. The Colorado Rockies prospect went 4-5 while driving in five with two home runs. Arencibia and Cardenas had two RBIs a piece as the Desert Dogs offense proved to be too much for Scottsdale to handle.
In Mesa, Casper Wells had another excellent game as he drives in two runs. Wells would add to his home run total for the season by hitting another one out of the park. Wells has seven home runs so far this season as he continues to do well for the Solar Sox. Surprise would only score two runs, one each inning, that would come in the first and ninth. The Sox’s win was enough to tie them for the lead in the AFL American Division standings for first place.
In Peoria, the Saguaros and the Javelinas squared off for another exciting game of baseball. The Javelinas would score early on taking the lead for the majority of the game. The Saguaros were lifted by three home runs from their team. Home runs were hit by Gordon Beckham (White Sox), Tyler Greene (Cardinals) and Lorenzo Cain (Milwaukee). The Javelinas would begin to stage a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning only to prove ineffective. The Saguaro home runs would prove to be the difference in the game as the Javelinas lose to the Saguaros by a score of 6-9.
