The maddening offensive inconsistency of the Phoenix Coyotes surfaced again on Thursday night in a 4-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center that broke the Coyotes’ three-game winning streak.
Marek Zidlicky scored his first two goals of the year, and added an assist, and Nicklas Backstrom, who ranked 4th in the NHL in save percentage going into the game, stopped 24 shots on the way to his 2nd shutout of the season. Phoenix was shut out for only the second time this year. The first came a week ago in a 1-0 loss to Vancouver.
The Coyotes, who exploded for a season-high five goals a night before in a win in Columbus, shot blanks on Thursday, while the Wild capitalized on the power play, scoring all of their four tallies on the man advantage.
Marc-Andre Bergeron had 3 assists for Minnesota, who beat the Coyotes for the 9th straight time.
