From Arizona State Media Relations
TEMPE, Ariz.–Arizona State University junior defensive end Dexter Davis has been named to the Ted Hendricks Award Mid-Season Watch List. The Hendricks Award is presented annually to the nation’s top defensive end. Former Sun Devil Terrell Suggs won the first ever Hendricks Award in 2002. Davis was also on the original Watch List released in July.
The Thunderbird High School (Phoenix, Ariz.) product is second in the Pacific-10 Conference with 7.0 sacks. Davis has totaled 30 tackles, including 11 for loss. He had two sacks in the win over Washington Saturday, his seventh multi-sack game of his career. Davis has recorded 23.5 sacks in his Sun Devil career, good for fifth-most in school history.
On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Award’s winner. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included in the Award’s voting committee. Candidates may represent any class (Freshman through Senior) as well as any four-year NCAA accredited school. The candidate’s primary position must be Defensive End. The winner will be announced on December 10.
Davis is one of 33 student-athletes on the Watch List and one of five from the Pac-10 Conference.
