The Skinny: Adam Dunn’s 2-run single highlighted a 5-run 5th inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks took the rubber game of a 3-game series, beating the Colorado Rockies 6-2. Chris Snyder started the scoring in the 5th with a 2-run homer, and the next batter, Chris Burke followed with a solo shot (his first of the year). Dan Haren rebounded from a loss in his last start, allowing just 2 runs over 8 innings for his 13th win on the season.
Who gets the credit?: Haren. He was in control all day, lowered his ERA back under the 3.00 mark on the season.
Who takes the blame?: Glendon Rusch, the Rockies starter who filled in for Aaron Cook, started out in control, retiring 11 of the first 12 batters he faced. But the wheels came off in the 5th, as Rusch allowed 5 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks before being replaced by Matt Herges.
Repercussions: The Diamondbacks, at least temporarily, find themselves alone in first place atop the National League West over the Dodgers by 1/2 game. The Dodgers host Philadelphia later tonight.
Numbers: Stephen Drew had two more hits, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. Drew is hitting .342 during the streak…The Diamondbacks are now 10-2 vs. the Rockies this season, and 31-16 against the National League West.
