That’s Brandon Webb’s record after yesterday’s 6 - 1 victory over the Braves. Webby kept the D’Backs from being swept by a team that has played badly on the road this year and, even after taking 3 of 4 from the Snakes, is playing .466 baseball overall.
Great work, Brandon! The D’Backs offense work up the day before and scored six runs, but that doesn’t help when you give up eleven. This time they scored six runs again but Webb slammed the door for six innings and Chad Qualls kept it closed for 2 more, and Jon Rausch absolutely locked it by striking out the side in the 9th.
That’s the kind of pitching we need more often, especially from the bullpen.
Then the Dodgers gave away the win they were working on against the Giants, so that helped. I heard the bottom of the ninth and the Giants scored the tying and winning runs without hitting the ball out of the infield. Casey Blake booted what should have been a game-ending double play grounder and the roof fell in on the Boys in Blue and there was nothing Man-Ram could do about it. Thanks, Dodgers!
